Service

The Service program will provide resources to permit Center participants to obtain maximum benefit from the Center’s combined expertise, devices, and training.

  • The first component of the Service program is a design and assembly resource to provide the Center’s devices to its collaborators and invited users. The initial collaborators are 16 researcher groups that will work with Center personnel to co-develop new devices and components and evaluate their feasibility. Invited users comprise a larger group of researchers who will use the new devices in subsequent larger-scale efficacy studies.
  • The second component of the Service program is a histology service that will be available to collaborators for tissue analysis of chronic devices. This service will facilitate the use of standardized tissue assessment methods and will provide a means for systematic analysis of the reactive tissue response to chronic devices of various types.
  • The third component is the formation of work groups that will bring together expertise from all parts of the Center to develop standards and standard operating procedures for monitoring device performance, including electrophysiological benchmarks and tissue assessment. The goal is to establish standards that can be used both within the Center’s community, as well as more generally by other device developers.
