CNCT Core Research
Three core research projects will advance neural probe technologies for long-term chronic multifunctional neural interfaces in response to requirements of collaborators, users, and the national research community. The theme of the core research is to develop high-performance devices with improved biocompatibility.
- Project 1 is directed at developing and characterizing next-generation silicon- and polymer-substrated devices for chronic electrical and chemical neural interfaces.
- Project 2 is directed at developing probe systems for neurochemical sampling.
- Project 3 is directed at developing methods to control tissue reactive responses around inserted probes and assessing the effectiveness of these methods using light microscopic imaging methods to describe cell type-specific changes in cell function. These projects are integrated through shared aims, coordinated experiments and activities, and shared personnel.
